 – New Year Greetings from Cigre B4 SC Chair: Joanne Hu –

Dear Colleagues

Hope you and your families have been doing well!

We lived through another year more or less virtually in 2021. Compared to 2020, although many of the Cigre conferences/symposiums were held as hybrid events in 2021, you may still feel that our B4 community is less connected due to the lack of in-person interaction. We are trying to improve our communication with our B4 newsletters to provide the updates on B4 activities (https://b4.cigre.org/GB/publications/b4-newsletters). Thanks to our editors for their tremendous work on newsletters and all the members that provided the inputs.

SC B4 is progressing as planned. We held our annual SC meeting early November. The B4 achievements and activities are highlighted in minutes of meeting (https://b4.cigre.org/GB/publications/sc-meetings). Thanks to all the members that have contributed to B4 activities on the tutorials, 2021 group discussion meeting, green book on HVDC, technical brochures, conference/symposium papers, strategic planning, etc. We have eight working groups completed their work with five technical brochures published on e- cigre in 2021. We are looking forward to forming more new working groups in the coming year.

The interest in the area of DC and Power electronics continues to trend upward, driven largely by the growth of green energy. SC B4 received large number of papers at Cigre conference and symposium in 2020, 2021 and 2022. It is becoming quite challenging to ensure the quality of large volume of the papers. We have established a pool of experts to support the paper review. Thanks to the B4 paper reviewers and welcome more reviewers to join us.

I wish all of you good health, joyful holidays, and a prosperous year in 2022! Hopefully we can meet physically in the near future as we all miss seeing each other face to face.

Warm regards Joanne Hu
