Honourable Mention for a UK Entry to the NGN Paris Showcase Competition

Haonan Yang, a PhD student at the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of The University of Manchester, was successfully chosen and sponsored by CIGRE UK, to attend the CIGRE Session 2024 in Paris, and present his research on the A3-PS2 subject of  Molecular Dynamics simulations of plasma-surface interactions for Vacuum Circuit Breakers  at the Session’s Next Generation Network (NGN) competition.  Click on the presentation title to see this and other UK NGN showcase submissions.

The CIGRE Paris Session is a major event in power systems engineering, that in 2024 brought together +4500 delegates and +11200 industry and academic participants to share advancements and challenges in electric power systems. More than 1100 papers were submitted from 99 countries. In addition, over +300 companies were involved in a technical exhibition, showcasing their technologies and innovations.

Haonan competed with 23 other candidates at the Paris Session NGN competition, received an Honourable Mention, and was placed joint second along side Horacio (C2, US), Leo (B2, France) and Yanting (B1, China). Expressing his gratitude, Haonan stated, “I am very thankful and honoured to receive this award. It motivates me to continue my research and develop my academic career”.
