About this Event

This meeting, attended by 70 delegates each of the two days in Manchester, provided a high-level overview of the ongoing activities in CIGRE related to Study Committee A3 (Transmission & Distribution Equipment) and B3 (Substations and Electrical Installations) led by UK Regular Members Matthew Iles (A3) and Tony Chen (B3). There were presentations on a variety of topics including challenges with new SF6 alternatives, network expansion and other topics pertinent to our industry.

The second goal of this session was to provide an open platform for suppliers and users to present their respective plans and exchange their perspective on the transitioning away from SF6 and management of existing SF6 assets. This is happening with increasing level of supply chain constraints, challenges with new products and non-standard requirements, and a lack of experienced personnel to deliver.

The meeting looked across the challenges faced by the entire sector and identify common themes for our CIGRE members. All of which leading to this big question of how CIGRE as an organisation can better support the solution development to tackle these problems.

At the end of the first day, 48 delegates attended a networking dinner at the Hyatt Regency.
