The SHEDD project investigates alternative Low Frequency Demand Disconnect (LFDD) design options with the aim of evaluating the potential technical, economic, and social performance improvement through implementation of these alternative LFDD options within short (≤ 5 years) and medium-long (> 5 years) terms.
The project has reviewed the Great Britain (GB) LFDD schemes and investigated the potential benefits of introducing a new design to the LFDD scheme which can better protect the network from sudden severe deviations in the system frequency, whilst minimising the impact to network customers.
The project has provided recommendations and specifications of new alternative LFDD solutions which can improve the performance of the LFDD schemes in the future as electricity networks continue to transition towards Net Zero.
Abdullah Emhmed | WSP
Dr Emhemed is an Associate Power Systems Engineer at WSP, and his main areas of expertise include modelling, simulation, and analysis of power systems. These include off-line and real-time dynamic modelling and analysis of AC power systems and HVDC systems, BESS and converter modelling, and dynamic modelling of offshore wind energy. Abdullah is currently working on and leading a number of innovation projects. These included the NIE LV ANM project, WPD-NGESO Low Frequency Demand Disconnection (NIA) SHEDD project, and SSE Residence as a Services (RaaS) project. He is also a full member of the IEC LVDC Systems Committee and IET TC2.4 on LVDC systems.
