About this Technical Webinar:

Synopsis | This webinar is organised in collaboration with CIGRE UK NGN and looks in to the major discussions worldwide on how the production of clean fuels, such as hydrogen, could facilitate the whole-energy system decarbonization. From a power system perspective, green hydrogen production results in massive grid integration of electrolysers, that needs to be considered in power system analysis. This technical talk will focus on modelling foundations of utility-scale hydrogen electrolysers with alkaline and proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology, including electrolysis stack models, power electronics interface (PEI) and control, thermodynamics, hydrogen production dynamics, operational constraints in downstream hydrogen process/bu!er, and operational constraints on the electrolysis stack technologies, required for system-level steady-state and dynamic studies in both transmission and distribution grids. Possible PEIs for grid integration of electrolysers will be discussed, along with the associated control schemes. It will be discussed how and to what extent electrolysis plants could impact system stability and operation, from both steady-state and dynamic perspectives.

Mehdi Ghazavi Dozein

Dr Mehdi Ghazavi Dozein is currently a Lecturer in Power and Energy Systems with the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering at Monash University. From 2021 to 2023, he was an Associate Lecturer in Power Systems at The University of Melbourne. Mehdi is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Panel Member of Australia CIGRE C4 on Power System Technical Performance. Mehdi has been part of several projects with industry in Australia and the UK. His research interests include power system dynamics and stability, system strength, grid integration of renewables, and control of inverter-based technologies at transmission and distribution networks. Mehdi is also highly interested in system integration of hydrogen technologies and green hydrogen hubs, the associated requirements, modelling, and system-level analysis.
