On the 20th August, the National Energy Systems Operator (NESO) kindly hosted a group from CIGRE UK’s NGN (Young Engineer) section to its Control Room in Wokingham, with around 25 attendees from utilities, universities, OEMs, and consultancies.
The event began with a presentation from Dr. Kai Lin of the NESO Network Access Planning team, who provided an overview of the organsation and its operations. This was followed by a presentation by Yixin Li, who introduced CIGRE UK and NGN.
Participants were then divided into two groups for a tour of the control room, guided by local NESO colleagues who explained its functions, including system operation, supply and demand balancing, and associated challenges. The visit concluded with an engaging Q&A session and discussion, offering valuable insights and an opportunity for networking with peers across various sectors of the power system industry.
