Overview
This event marked the inaugural launch of the CIGRE UK London Region Universities Hub, kindly hosted by Imperial College London, combining technical presentations, a panel discussion, a networking session to engage with students and young professional engineers, and an opportunity to promote and foster a CIGRE community at University. This was also a chance to network with subject matter experts in the fields relating to power systems and with individuals from the energy business community.
The meeting began with Kassem El Cheikh Ali, lead at the London Hub, welcoming everyone to Imperial College.

Navigating the Next Decade in Power Transmission – Jonathan Chapman
“The University Hubs are being established at a critical time in our industry, a time of monumental change and opportunity. The challenges facing our industry over the next decade will require the best talent in the UK to work collaboratively to resolve them and maximise the opportunities they present. If we navigate these changes well, we will contribute to building a resilient, efficient, and sustainable power transmission network for the future – a system that can meet rising demand, adapt to evolving technologies, and uphold our commitments to carbon reduction. As we look toward the future, the four Strategic Themes of CIGRE UK will be our guiding stars: Influence & Contribute, Vibrant & Inclusive, People & Skills and The Electricity Future. These themes will not only steer us through the challenges we face but also help us capitalise on the opportunities that will shape the energy landscape.”
