As Chair of the CIGRE UK Technical Committee, I’m thrilled to welcome Cheng Chen as our newly appointed Whole System Lead!
This is a bold step forward for CIGRE UK, reflecting our drive to stay at the cutting edge of innovation and collaboration in the energy sector. This special initiative highlights our unwavering commitment to advancing technological excellence and boosting energy resilience on the road to net zero.
In this role, Cheng will champion a whole system approach, exploring how CIGRE’s technical work, structure, and methods can be better aligned to this vital concept—and how we can connect our activities more strongly to the dynamic, evolving UK energy landscape.
Cheng will be working closely with the UK Technical Committee and wider stakeholders to shape a bold vision for CIGRE UK’s role in this space, ensuring that whole system thinking becomes a core part of what we do.
Cheng brings deep expertise and high regard within the industry. As Head of Offline Modelling at the National Energy Systems Operator (NESO), his leadership has already delivered powerful contributions to strategic network design and net-zero innovation. His passion for supporting the UK energy engineering community is second to none.
