Synopsis | Zenobe Energy Limited has delivered the Europe’s largest battery storage site at Blackhillock, Scotland from Feb 2025. This landmark project is a crucial step towards achieving the UK government’s target of a net-zero power grid by 2030. The site is also the first in the world to provide Stability Services (Inertia, SCL) with Grid Forming BESS to the network operator, ensuring renewable power is more secure and reliable. The presentation was delivered jointly by Duncan Hughes, Zenobe’s Head of Engineering and Xiaoming Li, Zenobe’s Chief Engineer.

Xiaoming Li is a Chartered Engineer and working in Zenobe’s Engineering team as the Chief Engineer whose responsibilities include planning and execution of multiple BESS projects, proposing and developing innovative solutions to meet the modern grid challenges, and working with consultants and network operators during the compliance journey. Prior to joining Zenobe, Xiaoming was working in the R&D department of FACTS (Flex AC Transmission System), R&D of HVDC (High Voltage DC) and BESS Solution at different manufacturers.
