On 23rd September 2025, CIGRE organised a Whole System Planning workshop at the Warwick University Conference Centre, with the support from the SuperAIRE research Project. The event was very successful, with 46 attendees from utilities, academia, manufacturers, government bodies, and consultancies.
The presentations from seven industry experts covered a wide range of topics in whole system planning, from strategic level discussions about policy and framework requirements to tactical insights on modelling hydrogen, heat, and gas with electricity. They also explored the application of AI and machine learning, as well as control optimisation between different plants.
The audience had ample opportunities to ask questions, join open discussions, and more importantly, network with colleagues from various sectors within the energy industry. After the main agenda, many delegates visited the Warwick University’s Hydrogen Simulation Lab and appreciated the demonstration of simulating a whole energy approach.
