About this Technical Webinar:
HVDC Converter Transformers
There are a number of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) electricity links operating in the UK now with more to come. These type of transmission schemes pose a number of challenges for the converter transformers that connect the AC grid with the HVDC converters. This brief presentation will look at the particular challenges the HVDC scheme presents to the transformer design.
Presenter:

Jonathan Walmsley has worked at the UK’s last remaining large Power Transformer manufacturing facility for the last 20 years. His work has included bespoke, complex large power transformer designs developed to meet demanding customer and system requirements, as well as transformers for HVDC transmission links on major projects around the world. Jonathan has also contributed to transformer designs that have been manufactured globally, giving me valuable insight into both advanced engineering design and international manufacturing practices. Jonathan’s current role is leading the Electrical Design Team at the factory based in Stafford.
Away from the transformer Industry he has a family with 2 children of school age and spends a lot of time taking them around the rural Shropshire countryside where he lives.
