 – Announcing a Virtual Centennial Session in 2021 now running from the 18th to the 27th of August –

We have now been officially informed about how the CIGRE 2021 Centennial Session will be held. It is probably no surprise to the majority of you that it will be a virtual session only and not a hybrid as had originally been planned. The full details are in the email which I received from Philippe Adam, CIGRE Secretary-General, which I have copied below. Please give your support to make this virtual session a great success in our hundredth year.

“Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased today to bring you certainty regarding the 2021 Centennial Session. Following Steer Co discussions and recognition of the Covid situation across the globe, the decision has been formally reached to make the 2021 Centennial Session a virtual event.

Since our 2020 e-session, we have learnt a great deal and I am also pleased to bring you the exciting news that the Virtual Session will be a unique immersive digital experience. The Session will be professionally hosted at the Palais des Congrès in their five new studios. each offering broadcast standard support and resources.

Using this technology our experts (SC Chairs, experts and others) will gather physically in Paris to host our virtual Group Discussion meetings in a carefully facilitated way, to allow full community engagement. Additionally, there will be 16 new tutorials and we are exploring offering ‘CIGRE TV’ before and after the technical programme. This would bring you daily Session reports, interviews, CIGRE news and more.

The event will run over eight working days, from Wednesday 18 August to Friday 27 August. Following feedback, we have looked also closely at the events within the Session and have selected times that span the key time zones to reflect our global nature. We will shortly post a full programme to session.cigre.org, open registrations and contributions will be invited.

Registration fees have been lowered to reflect the virtual nature of the event. Those who registered for the 2021 full Session can carry their registration forward to 2022 and access this year’s virtual event for a special highly discounted rate*. Similarly, those who now register for 2022 will access the same rate.

The fee schedule follows:

Virtual Session only Member rate Non-member rate
Basic 395 € 595 €
Student -50% -50%
Young professional -20% -20%
Special rate* 195 € 295 €

* The special rate is for the delegates who will accept to transfer to the 2022 Session, their registrations to the 2021 hybrid Session paid in 2020 or 2021, and for the delegates who will register to the 2022 Session in 2021.

I invite you our NCs, the lifeblood of our Association, to call your members to unite virtually in Paris this August and be a part of the world’s leading digital event for power system expertise. We are seeking to celebrate our centennial by continuing the unique fraternity that is the CIGRE Session and its tradition as the go-to place for professionals seeking the latest insights on the global power system.

Watch our key communications channels for more information shortly: session.cigre.org, LinkedIn and email”.
